About Wankhede Stadium
The Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium in the city of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The stadium was established in the year 1974. The Wankhede Stadium is arguably the best stadium in the Indian subcontinent. The stadium hosts cricket matches both at the domestic and the international level. The stadium apart from hosting international matches, also serves as the home ground for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team as well as the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The stadium has witnessed all three forms of the game, namely tests, ODIs and the new Twenty20 format.
History:
The Wankhede Stadium was established in the year 1974 as a result of the then growing dispute between the Cricket Club of India which owned the Brabourne Stadium and the Mumbai Cricket Association over the allocation of ticket sales. Then under the initiative of the then secretary of MCA, Mr S.K. Wankhede, the Wankhede Stadium came into being. The stadium was constructed in six months and then took over as the main stadium in the city overtaking Brabourne Stadium. The stadium has been witness to great innings like Gavaskar's 205 against the Windies and Kalicharan's 187 in the same match in 1978-79. In fact, Ravi Shastri's six sixes in an over off Baroda's Tilak Raj en route to the fastest double hundred in first class cricket were witnessed at this venue. The Wankhede Stadium is situated near the Church gate Station in South Mumbai in the city. The main gates to the ground are named after Vinoo Mankad and Polly Umrigar.

The Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium in the city of Mumbai with a seating capacity of around 40,000 spectators. The stadium also has the facilities of floodlights. The stadium was designed by Shahshi Prabhu and Associates and its contractor was B.E. Bilimoria Company. The two seating ends of the ground are called as Garware Pavilion End and Tata End. Apart from being one of the biggest stadiums in the country, it is also one of the most modernized and well equipped in every department. The management of the stadium is in the hands of the Maharashtra Cricket Association.
