Chennai Super Kings - IPL Cricket Team

Chennai Super Kings are some say the complete team with good clean strikers of the ball, an imaginative captain and a great crop of Indian players, a magical spinner and one of the best all rounders in the world in Andrew Flintoff. Coached by former South African cricketer Kepler Wessels, the team makes up for the absence of an Icon Player by having stalwarts like Stephen Fleming, Matthew Hayden, Jacob Oram, Makhaya Ntini, Michael Hussey, and Muttiah Muralidharan lending their participation to the Super Kings. The team's name was chosen as a tribute to the rulers of the golden era of Tamil culture.

The 2009 competition which was held on foreign soil in South Africa was a mixed bag affair for the Chennai Super Kings. Some saw them as potential Champions in making their stats are they played 14 won 8 lost 5 N/R 1 and they gained 17 points.

The opening match was against Mumbai Indians a game they felt they could easily win however they soon found themselves on the back foot and ended up losing this opening game by 19 runs. Showing the class in this team they faced Bangalore Royal Challengers in their next match a lot of teams would have struggled but Chennai very quickly gained the ascendency and they quickly returned to winning ways by beating Bangalore by 92. The signs looked good for Chennai Super Kings and everyone thought that they would now show their class and go on an extended winning run, but cricket is not a predictable sport and they managed to lose the next match to Delhi Daredevils. The very next match against Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to rain.

Could things get worse for Chennai well Deccan Chargers were most definately out to ensure they did by beating Chennai by 6 wickets. It seemed the season was over before it had begun, but then just when everybody thought they were out for the count came an amazing run by Chennai Super Kings going on a 5 match winning streak. Everybody was now wondering if Chennai could go all the way, the next match was surely going to be an easy run for Chennai hadn't they already beaten Bangalore RC, however somebody forgot to tell Bangalore that they were already beaten and they had the nerve to gain revenge on Chennai and beat them by 2 wickets. Chennai picked themselves off the floor one more time and beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in the very next match but they were only flattering to deceive by losing to Kolkata Knight Riders in the next match they then beat Kings XI Punjab by 24 runs before losing in a thrilling semi final to Bangalore Royal Challengers who once more had their revenge on Chennai Super Kings. Better Luck next year Chennai.
